Jon says... Mediocre
Light bodied for a syrah, with a pleasant nose and good follow-through. It calls itself a shiraz and “down under” is slapped on the label, but it comes from California. Good enough, but I would rather get the Purple Moon.
It looks like Black Mountain trademarked “Down Under” in the US. I wonder what the Aussies think about that?
Ted says... Buy
Another California Syrah riding the down under craze by calling it’s wine “Down Under Shiraz” and passing along the value too—only $6 a bottle!
This wine has spicy, jammy fruit on the nose and it finishes smooth, with a touch of tannins. It’s a great drinker by itself or it’s going to go great with some grilled pork chops or chicken.
