I’m a big fan of German wine, especially the Rieslings. I think they’re good for lots. Anyone agree?

I attend a bi-monthly German riesling tasting at Dee Vine Wines in San Francisco. 20 – 30 bottles of the best examples (and pour yourself!). My favorite producers are: Muller Catoir, Robert Weil, Schloss Volrads and Von Hovel. 2005 and 2006 have been spectacular years for German rieslings. So make sure to check them out.

I believe that Mark Twain once noted that German wine was distinguishable from vinegar by the label.

Not true anymore?

Certainly not. German Rieslings are some of the best in the world. And for those that say Alsace, France is better, well that may true if you prefer dry rieslings to sweet ones. But let me remind you that Alsace was once part of Germany but later was lost to the French after World War I. German wines can be great, just like their cars!
