Wine and Dine your Valentine

February 14th is a pretty tricky day. Some people have hot dates they need to impress. Other people have feelings they need to repress. Either way, 2 Guys Uncorked and We Are Not Martha have teamed up to create a special dinner for you.

2 Guys Down Under - New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs (Part 1)

Over the past 20 years, wine production in the Southern Hemisphere has blown up. Australia and New Zealand recognized this trend early and have seen massive success (who hasn’t had Yellowtail or Cloudy Bay?). So, given all this hype, 2 Guys Uncorked brings you a multi-part series on “Down Under.” This week, 2GU looks at New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs.

How do I make my own Simpsons character?

If you haven’t already noticed, Jon and I decided to use Simpsons characters that roughly look like us to make the whole wine reviewing experience all that more fun.

One of the questions we get asked is “where can I make my own Simpsons character?”

Luckily, this one is easy to answer (unlike why the fungus Botrytis cinerea is great news for you sweet wine folks, see a future post for that one). Just head over here: http://simpsonizeme.com/ and start creating!

Winning Wines for the Superbowl

Chances are, you’re going to a Superbowl get-together this weekend. Some people go for the game, others go just to hang out with friends. Either way, bringing a bottle of wine is a good call.

This week, 2 Guys Uncorked reviewed wines that go great with Superbowl XLII. These wines are big, bold and perfect for pizza, burgers, chili and buffalo wings (my personal favorite).

How to pair food and wine, a quick guide

Pairing food with wine doesn’t have to be hard. Then again, it’s not so easy. It’s kind of like dating—-just because she’s hot (say a spicy cabernet), doesn’t necessarily mean she’s going to pair with you (say, a chicken). The piece of chicken wouldn’t be able to combat the over-zealous cabernet. However, tame that cabernet down a bit, to say a Pinot Noir or Merlot, and you’re going to have a much better fit. Or man up a bit to a New York strip and it should hold well against the cabernet.

Price Matters: People Enjoy a $10 Wine More When they are Told it is $90

A joint study by Stanford Business School and the California Institute of Technology came out this month. Its topic: Whether the price of a wine can affect the taster’s level of enjoyment. Turns out, price matters.
